JR Hoyer, MBA

Chief Technology Officer
jrhoyer@plsweb.com

Personal Mission in Education

"I have spent most of my career in the very aggressive world of global information technology management. The focus of innovation in that world is primarily cost reduction and efficiency improvement. While those are fine objectives, they are not necessarily personally rewarding. A few years ago, I chose to apply my knowledge and experience to the field of education. There continues to be significant opportunities to enhance education through appropriate application of emerging technologies. My goal is to find personal satisfaction by knowing that my efforts have done something to improve our world by helping children learn."

JR Hoyer is responsible for guiding the technical activities of the organization so that it can meet the evolving educational technology needs of our clients and partners. Hoyer brings over twenty-five years of experience leading software technology organizations in a variety of industries. During this time, he has lived and worked in several countries, managing software development efforts in a number of organizations.

Hoyer started his career at AT&T Bell Laboratories doing research and process design in the fabrication of high technology electronics. The global nature of the design, manufacturing, and consumption of electronic devices drove the creation of data models and standards for the exchange and sharing of information between companies in all parts of the world. Hoyer led pioneering efforts to define and implement industry standards in order to enable internet-based collaboration.

In recent years, JR has focused on how software technologies can transform and enhance the teaching and learning processes. While excellence in education is primarily dependent up caring and capable teachers, appropriate application of technology can enhance their effectiveness and support improved student achievement.
